Description

The Chelva Water Route, which can be done either from Chelva or from Calles, is a tourist itinerary of great interest, with a circular route that combines nature and culture in a pleasant walk of approximately two hours with some rest areas along the way. Along the way, you will not fail to hear the murmur of water from numerous springs, fountains, irrigation channels and, above all, from the river Tuéjar, also known as the river Chelva. The main attraction of the Valencian region of La Serranía, the Roman aqueduct of Chelva, which dates back more than 2000 years, is nowadays accessible on foot. Chelva is a town that is worth a visit in itself, and which preserves in its urban centre the mark left by the peoples who inhabited it throughout history. A place where Arabs, Jews, Moors and Christians bequeathed their heritage. The municipality has some of the historic quarters with the most personality and beauty in the whole province, such as the Arab quarter of Benacacira, which still maintains the hidden and mysterious atmosphere of that culture. Its narrow streets, the sound of water from its countless fountains and its whitewashed houses evoke the memory of a medieval town built on a hill and surrounded by walls to ensure its defence.

What we are going to do?

We will do a 14km guided hiking route along the path of Peña Cortada, in the Valencian Community. It is a full day experience, departing from Valencia at 9.30am and returning at 6pm. It is a route of medium difficulty and technical level, with wide and comfortable trails to walk, with little slope (350 meters), which makes this route an experience suitable for all audiences. We will meet in Valencia to travel to Chelva in a minibus. Once there, we will have a coffee on the terrace and we will start the walk of about 4 or 5 hours.
