Description
The Albufera Natural Park is a beautiful wetland located just 10 km south of Valencia. It is nature in its purest form, dreamy sunsets, boat rides and disconnection in capital letters. Like an urban oasis surrounded by rice fields and forest. The word Albufera derives from the Arabic 'al-buhayra', which means 'small sea'. The freshwater marsh is the largest in Spain despite the fact that it now occupies only a third of its size two centuries ago. There are more than thirty small islets jutting out of the water, adding to the charm of the landscape. The Albufera constitutes one of the most representative and valuable coastal wetlands of the Valencian Community, to the extent that in 1986 it was declared a Natural Park. Its value for the environment is extremely important, as it is home to a multitude of endangered species. The uniqueness and beauty of the Albufera Natural Park make it a spectacularly beautiful environment, visited by tourists and locals alike. It is worth noting the incredible landscape that can be seen at sunset.
What we are going to do?
We will take a full bus tour departing from the city of Valencia itself. The bus makes six stops within the city, including a stop next to the futuristic City of Arts and Sciences, before heading south, passing through rice paddy landscapes on the way to the Albufera Natural Park. Once in the Albufera, we pass a small strip of pine forests and sand dunes that separate the marsh from the Mediterranean Sea. If we are lucky, we may spot some of the hundreds of bird species that inhabit this area, including storks and spoonbills. The experience includes a 30-minute boat cruise on the Albufera and a return ticket back to Valencia on the same bus. During the trip we will be able to listen to a voice-over with explanations of the visit and the surroundings.
