Visit to a Txakoli winery in Getaria
Description
Txakoli is a young, fruity, slightly acidic white wine made from green grapes and has been produced in the Basque Country since long before the 16th century. In the Basque Country there are three Denominations of Origin for Txakoli and the best and most exclusive version is made in the lands surrounding the coastal town of Getaria. In 1989, Getaria Txakoli was recognised as a Designation of Origin under the name "Getariako Txakolina". This is why this coastal town is known as the birthplace of Txakoli. Currently, the geographical scope of the D.O. covers the entire historical territory of Gipuzkoa, with 402 hectares of vineyards, mostly in coastal areas.
What we are going to do?
We will depart from San Sebastian in a private organised transport to get to know the fishing villages of Getaria and Zarautz. First we will enjoy wonderful views of the region from Mount Talai Mendi and then we will take a guided walk through the old part of Getaria and its port. Then we will discover all the secrets of Txakoli with a guided visit to a "txakolindegi" (Txakoli house, in Basque), where we will finish with a tasting and a local aperitif based on typical products of the Cantabrian Sea.
