Hiking route to San Pedro across the “Camino de Santiago”
Description
The city of San Sebastian is known for its incredible beaches, but the green environment that surrounds it is one of its best kept secrets. The most panoramic excursion that we can do from San Sebastian is a section of the “Camino de Santiago” (The Way of Saint James), a path that pilgrims follow, the so-called “Camino del Norte” (The North Road). This is an excursion suitable for all the family that crosses Mount Ulía, which rises on the very side of the city, above Zurriola beach, and what you can see from its summit on both sides is amazing, spectacular views of San Sebastian and the bay of Pasaia.
What we are going to do?
We will do a hiking route suitable for all levels and organised in a small group. After meeting the guide in San Sebastian, we will start our walking tour which will last between 2 and 3 hours, depending on the pace. We will start with a stroll along the Paseo Marítimo and follow the route through Mount Ulía to the east. There, we will enjoy the fantastic views of San Sebastian and we will have the privilege of discovering, from our guide, the history of Mount Ulía and how they used the watchtower at the top to watch whales in the Bay of Biscay. We will then pass the remains of a Roman aqueduct and enjoy views of the 19th century La Plata Lighthouse, which guided fishermen to the port. We will descend through pine forests to San Pedro (Pasaia in Basque), where we will replenish our energy with a "pintxo" and a drink. The return journey to San Sebastian will be by an organised private transport, which will be waiting for us on our arrival.
