Guided tour “The dark side of Paris”
Description
Paris is considered by many to be the City of Love, fashion, art and French culture, but Paris also has another "face". France also has a significant tragic history of revolutions, executions, endemic diseases and bitter wars fought against a corrupt monarchy. This tour will allow you to discover this other side of the city, its more vulnerable side that you rarely get the chance to explore. Don't miss this great opportunity to get to know the dark and violent side that hides behind the impeccable façade of the City of Light. Discover the past of torture and execution, of the many wives of Henri IV, of the French Revolution and the reign of terror. Explore the Conciergerie, where Queen Marie-Antoinette was imprisoned in 1793 and the former Place du Grève, where many were tortured and killed.
What we are going to do?
A guided walking tour of Paris that takes place under a cloak of darkness, winding through alleyways, and in the deep silence of the night. Accompanied by your local guide, you'll pass some of the city's darkest places such as the Place du Vert-Galant, where the last of the Knights Templar was burned at the stake; St Germain de Auxerre, where an estimated 30,000 people died in the St Bartholomew's Day massacre in 1572; and the Palais de Justice, where the guilty sentenced by the court were tortured and executed in front of the public. As you continue your tour, you will learn about the history of the plague-stricken generations, the French Revolution, the Paris Commune and the Nazi regime. You will also learn about the characters who shaped the city, from Napoleon to Marie Antoinette, Henri IV and the serial killers who once roamed these same streets you walk through with your guide today.
