Excursion to the Natural Park of Ponga, in Oviedo
Description
Next to the Picos de Europa and hidden in the Cantabrian mountains is the least densely populated council of Asturias. Here the gorges and steep slopes give shelter to small picturesque villages where important ethnographic and architectural manifestations are still preserved. This is the kingdom of the forest and its inhabitants: beech and oak woods cover this corner of the Asturian geography where grouse and wild boar, wolves and deer live and the brown bear roams. The route allows us to access the natural park from the Beyos gorge where, if the road conditions allow it and we are determined to enjoy strong sensations, we will reach the village of Casielles or Viboli, hanging from the limestone walls of these mountains. The visit continues towards the interior of the park until we reach Les Bedules pass, from where we can enjoy a splendid panoramic view of the western massif of the Picos de Europa and the valley of the river Ponga. After enjoying the marvellous landscapes we will move down the valley until we reach the village of Sobrefoz to complete a short walk through this picturesque village before lunch (lunch not included in the price), and continue on to Sellaño to finish our excursion.
