Description
This full day excursion will show you everything you need to know about Antequera; from the dolmens of Mega and Viera, where you will learn about the funerary rituals that took place in prehistoric times, to the climb to the Torcal, to enjoy the views offered by its rock formations and viewpoints. During the excursion we will visit the Archaeological Museum of the city, known for being a bourgeois palace from the 18th century and housing the famous Efebo. We will also visit the Royal Collegiate Church of San Sebastian.
What we are going to do?
The excursion begins with a visit to the greatest exponent of European megalithism, the Dolmen of Mega y Viera. We will learn how these mortuary galleries were made and what the funerary rituals were. We will then walk to the centre of Antequera and enter the archaeological museum of the city. Afterwards, we will enter the Royal Collegiate Church of San Sebastian, and go up to the upper quarter of the Alcazaba, where we will see the Collegiate Church of Santa Maria and the Roman baths. We will descend through the walls and Mudejar gates to finish in the Plaza de las Descalzas, just in time to enjoy a tapa of "porra antequerana" with refreshments. After lunch, we will go up to the Torcal and go on a hiking route of approximately 1 hour and a quarter, concluding our experience.
