Excursion to the Caminito del Rey at your own pace
Description
The Desfiladero de los Gaitanes Natural Park is one of the most spectacular landscapes in the Malaga mountain range, with steep walls of considerable height, between which runs the Guadalhorce River. It is a canyon carved out by the river that is only 10 metres wide at some points and up to 700 metres deep. The construction of a water channel was accompanied by a maintenance path for the channel, known as Caminito del Rey (Little King's Path) because the work was inaugurated by King Alfonso XIII. This path (known as the walkways), some 3 kilometres long, has just been restored, and runs between vertical walls and a bridge in the gorge itself over the water channel. The route of El Caminito del Rey is spectacular, from its arrival in the area of the Conde de Guadalhorce reservoir to its exit at the El Chorro dam. It is a linear, non-circular, one-way route of almost 8 km, which takes an average of 3 to 4 hours to complete.
What we are going to do?
With this experience you will do the route of the Caminito del Rey at your own pace. To do so, you will have to get to the meeting point in El Chorro by your own means. At the meeting point you can arrive by public transport or in your own vehicle, which you can leave parked at the same place. Once the group is formed, we will take the shuttle bus that will take us to the entrance of the Caminito, in the north of the Natural Park. After a short walk through pine trees and Mediterranean vegetation, accompanied by a guide, we will reach the entrance security checkpoint where we will be given the relevant instructions and the obligatory protective helmets. At this point, the guide will leave us alone to enjoy the tour at our own pace. After finishing the incredible experience between footbridges and the suspension bridge, we will arrive at the end of the Caminito where we will return the helmets and we will be again at the initial meeting point where we will have left the vehicles or from where we can take the train back to Malaga.
