Tour of El Escorial Monastery in Spanish
Description
The Royal Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial, built in the 16th century in the Spanish town of San Lorenzo de El Escorial, in the community of Madrid, was considered the eighth wonder of the world, both for its size and functional complexity and for its enormous symbolic value. It is also a World Heritage Site. It has a royal palace, a basilica, a library, a school and a monastery. It is the monument that best summarises the ideological and cultural aspirations of the Spanish "Golden Age", expressed here through an original synthesis of Italian and Flemish artistic forms at the behest of Philip II.
What we are going to do?
A two-hour tour in which we will visit the rooms of this spectacular monastery: the basilica, the Battle Room, the pantheon and the palace rooms, among others. We will also learn about the reasons why Philip II chose its current location at the foot of the Sierra de Guadarrama for its construction.
