Description
We propose a journey through space and time, where you can learn about the drinking and eating habits, tastes and customs of the people of Madrid, from the Golden Age to the present day. Excellent and original wines, family wineries and local gastronomy. Just 30 kilometres from the city, we find a region of the Madrid region, full of vineyards and forgotten historic villages with 900 years of winemaking tradition. Environmentally protected territories that for centuries were the exclusive suppliers of a newborn capital with an unquenchable thirst for wine that grew along with its population. When improved communications allowed other regions of Spain to flood Madrid with cheaper wine, they were relegated to oblivion. Nevertheless, they maintained their place in the capital's most traditional and faithful taverns, as well as in its villages.
What we are going to do?
We will make a guided tour departing from Madrid in which we will visit 3 traditional wineries in the Community of Madrid. We will have the opportunity to get in touch with the owners and winemakers and we will taste their wines always accompanied by appetizers such as cheese, Iberian products or olive oil. The first stop will be in the region of Las Vegas de Madrid. We will make a complete visit to the facilities of the first winery to understand the winemaking process in this area of Spain. Afterwards we will visit two more wineries that are representative of the area, where we will also taste some of the wines they produce. We will find a surprising diversity in each of the wineries: modern technology combined with old earthenware jars, centuries-old ageing caves, vineyards on hills, medieval villages and especially an unexpected variety of wines.
