Description
Toledo, an ancient city perched on a hill above the plains of Castilla La Mancha, is the capital of the region and a World Heritage Site. Known as the "city of the three cultures", due to the centuries-long coexistence of Christians, Arabs and Jews, Toledo preserves behind its walls an artistic and cultural legacy in the form of synagogues, mosques and churches and an impressive Cathedral, one of the wonders of the city, presided over by El Greco's painting Expolio en la Sacristía Mayor, considered one of the painter's most outstanding works. The Cathedral, beyond its historical and artistic value, also has a theological value and significance as a reference point for the pastoral life of the whole diocese, both for priests and lay faithful. Toledo, being surrounded by the natural moat of the River Tagus, leaves no doubt as to its defensive and watchtower location. For this reason, some of the important monuments are related to its military structure, such as the Alcazar, the walls or the Castle of San Servando.
What we are going to do?
We will make a full day excursion to Toledo from Madrid. Upon arrival in the imperial city of Toledo we will go inside its walls accompanied by an expert local guide who will lead us through the city through its history and legends, with explanatory stops at its main monuments and places of interest such as the grandiose Cathedral of Toledo or the Jewish Quarter. In addition, we will enjoy a panoramic tour of the best views of the city. After the guided tour of Toledo, we can continue enjoying the city at our own pace. Finally, we will meet and take the bus back to Madrid.
