Guided tour to Castro de Viladonga and source of the river Miño from Lugo
Description
Near the city of Lugo we find the pre-Roman settlement of Castro, dating from the 3rd - 5th centuries. About 15 km north of the Castro, near Meira, we find the Lagoa de Fonmiñá, a lagoon where subterranean waters of karstic origin come together from various sources and from here the "rio pai" Miño begins its journey. These waters come from the source of the Miño, some 10 km further upstream, at Pedregal de Irimia. A glacial moraine where groundwater emerges at the end of a stone funnel, this area is the subject of many legends related to the river Minho.
What we are going to do?
We will leave Lugo towards Castro de Rey, where we will visit the excavation of Castro de Viladonga, the pre-Roman settlement, and after some explanations, we will enter the museum. The second stop will be at the source of the Miño River, where we will take a short walk while the guide tells us curiosities and legends of the place.
