Guided tour to Sintra and 4WD route in Cabo da Roba from Lisboa
Description
Sintra is a Portuguese town nestled in the hills of the Sintra Mountains. Hidden among the pine-covered hills we discover whimsical palaces, extravagant villas and the ruins of a Moorish castle. The variety of fascinating historical buildings and natural scenery combine to perfection. Here we find one of the finest palaces in Europe, the Pena Palace, which was one of the main residences of the Portuguese royal family during the 19th century. On the other hand, we will visit the Moorish Castle, testimony of the Islamic presence in the Iberian Peninsula, built in the 9th century and conquered by the Portuguese during the formation of the Kingdom of Portugal.
What we are going to do?
We will travel from Lisboa to the Pena Palace in Sintra. We will have a guided tour of the interior and gardens. After the tour we will go down to Sintra to stroll through its streets or taste its regional products, such as the famous travesseiros and queijadas de Sintra. We will get into a 4x4 and drive along the trails of the Sintra mountain range, where we will be able to see the Quinta da Regaleira Palace, the Monserrate Palace, the Capuchos Convent and the Peninha Convent. We will continue to the wild and rugged Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point of Europe, which the famous Portuguese poet Luis de Camões defined as the place "onde a terra acaba e o mar começa" ("where the land ends and the sea begins"). Finally, we will return to Lisboa.
