Fado Show in Lisbon
Description
Fado is one of the most recognised expressions of orality in the world. It is a form of singing and interpreting in Portuguese that expresses and reflects the soul of a people who set out to explore the world and searched other continents for the beauty of a planet that, at that time, was brimming with shades of green and blue. Fado is inseparable from the Portuguese guitar, the Fado viola, the poems and the voices. And it is in this mixture, in this encounter, in this dependence, that art comes to life and Fado comes to life. Over the years, poets have written and told stories that take us back to different times, moments, spaces and lives, creating in our imagination nostalgic "saudades", longings, happy evocations and timeless sensations. In 2011, UNESCO declared Fado Intangible Heritage of Humanity. With this distinction and recognition, this song of "saudade" gained greater projection and repercussion. It now has a national dimension and Lisbon has a special bond with this form of expression.
What we are going to do?
The experience gives access to the famous show "Fado in Chiado", at the Teatro de Artes Cénicas in Lisbon. A 50-minute show, eleven years in the making, pioneer in presenting live and every day, at the end of the evening, a traditional Fado show, accompanied by Portuguese guitar and Fado viola, with two voices: one female and one male. The instrumentalists are musicians who share their emotions by strumming guitars and violas, dialoguing with the voices and establishing a complicity that, in Fado, is transformed into a unique auditory and visual experience. This is a very important experience in Portuguese culture and a must-attend event if you want to get to know Lisbon in depth.
