Description
This is one of the most beautiful routes we can do near Granada. Known as the Ruta del Gollizno, it is a route of great environmental value, passing through enclaves of the highest historical importance around the town of Moclín and Los Olivares. The route is a walk through the history of the settlement of Moclín, including some impressive cave paintings and incredible external views of its castle, one of the best defensive structures of the Nasrid period, the Watchtowers, strategically scattered at the highest points around the castle and its walls. During the tour you can enjoy the beauty of the landscape from its four viewpoints, cross the Velillos River via the suspension bridge and the recently restored pedestrian bridge, and also visit the cave paintings near the Fuente Corcuela. We will walk through the "Tajos de la Hoz", a natural gorge carved out by the constant flow of water which, together with the lush coastal vegetation, will bring a pleasant feeling to the walk.
What we are going to do?
We will meet at a central point in Granada and we will travel in a van all together to the starting point of the route, in the village of Olivares. The route has a total distance of 8 kilometres that we will cover in approximately 2 hours and a half. It is an easy route, suitable for anyone of any age and physical condition. We will first enter the Tajos de la Hoz, we will continue until we find the Velillos River, which we will cross through its suspension bridge and finally we will arrive at the Fonte de Corcuela, where we will rest a little before visiting the Neolithic cave paintings. Once the route is finished we will return in our van to Granada.
