Camel ride in the dunes of Maspalomas, Gran Canaria
Description
A pleasant and peaceful camel ride through the protected natural area of the Maspalomas dunes in Gran Canaria is one of the most fun things to do and a perfect experience for young and old alike. Riding a camel and enjoying such a spectacular desert landscape is something you can't miss on your holiday in Gran Canaria and will take your imagination to live incredible adventures as if you were in the Sahara desert. This popular tourist activity was declared Cultural Heritage of San Bartolomé de Tirajana in 2004. The species of camel bred in Gran Canaria is the "camelus dromedarios". In ancient times traders domesticated these noble animals to carry their goods from southern Arabia to the northern Middle East. They were not only a reliable means of transport but also provided travellers with food, wool, shade and shelter. The camel, a calm and intelligent animal, has an unpredictable behaviour that has earned it a reputation for being ill-tempered and stubborn. However, they are generally good-humoured and docile. Let the guide guide you, don't make the animal angry and the experience will be unforgettable.
