The Cinema Museum-Tomàs Mallol Collection is a permanent, non-profit institution, open to the public as a space for scientific, cultural and recreational participation of citizens, and at the service of society and its development. The space offers a journey through 500 years of the history of images, looking at the background and origins of cinema, as a technique and as a visual spectacle, as well as learning about the beginnings of the seventh art until the arrival of television. Its origins lie in the acquisition of the Tomás Mallol Collection of cinematographic and pre-cinematographic objects by Girona City Council on 28 January 1994; it is located in the former headquarters of the city's water company, a late 19th century building known as the "Casa de les Aigües". Its mission is to promote understanding and knowledge of the history of the moving image and cinema through the conservation, research, interpretation and exhibition of various collections, whose objects explain how images were represented before cinema and the technical process that led to the invention of the cinematograph in 1895.
