Vilafamés is an inland town in the province of Castellón that stands out for its old quarter. Strolling through its streets takes us back to its Moorish origins with narrow, zigzagging streets, with corners that make you marvel, with its castle at the top and the small church at its feet. What is most surprising, without a doubt, is that in the whole of the old quarter of Vilafamés, there is a predominance of stone constructions. The historic centre of Vilafamés was declared an Asset of Cultural Interest on 22nd April 2005 and is included in the Route of the Most Beautiful Villages in Spain. It occupies a strategic position on the top of a mass that forms part of the northern end of the Sierra de les Conteses. This location gives it broad views over the plain that stretches out at its feet and the surrounding countryside. At the same time, its position halfway between the inland and the coast means that the municipality has the characteristics of an inland town with the advantages of its proximity to the coast, which means that it enjoys the climatic characteristics of a Mediterranean town, with mild winters and hot summers.
