Guided tour of Getxo, Portugalete and the Bizkaia Bridge in Bilbao
Description
During the 19th century the Bilbao region underwent a huge industrialised development that gave rise to two very distinct social classes: the working class and the financial class. Each settled on the east and west banks of the River Nervión, and both areas developed in very different ways. With the appearance and construction of the Bizkaia Bridge at the end of the 19th century as a representation of the iron industry in the area and a link between the two banks, the city underwent a change that would mark the initial lines of the new Bilbao.
What we are going to do?
We will take a guided tour (by private organised transport) that will take us to the Bizkaia Bridge. We will follow the route on the left side of the bridge, where we will find the medieval town of Portugalete. On the right, we will discover Getxo, with all its different areas: from the majestic Las Arenas and the exclusive Palaces of Neguri to the charming century-old houses of the Old Port of Algorta and the amazing views from the cliffs of Punta Galea.
