Description
Bilbao is a city with a unique character, as the combination of the avant-garde with the traditional flavour of its old town, full of charming streets and bars full of "pintxos", shows that gastronomy is lived with passion here. All this has earned Bilbao a place of honour in the lists of the most interesting cities in Spain. In its historic centre you can take an interesting itinerary to discover medieval Bilbao, with its cobbled streets, cantons, squares and charming corners, witnesses to the intense mercantile and port activity that made it grow. Its walls, the Gothic cathedral of Santiago, the Plaza Nueva, the emblematic church of San Antón and the ancient ruins on which it stands, and the bustling Ribera market are home to more than 500 years of history and an urban vitality that seems to go on forever.
What we are going to do?
We will get to know the most interesting places in Bilbao by walking through its historic quarter and accompanied by a local guide so as not to miss any of the secrets hidden in this emblematic city, getting to know every detail of its buildings and its people. Starting from the border of the Old Town and the Centre, we will walk through the winding streets of the Old Town, passing through the seven oldest streets and the churches of San Antón and Santiago, without missing La Ribera Market. Afterwards we will be able to see some details of the expansion of the city during the 19th century with the influence of industrialisation and financial development, and finally the last modernisation of the city with the construction of the Paseo de la Ribera, the White Bridge (Zubizuri) and the Guggenheim Museum (where the tour will end).
