Description
The Penedès is one of the oldest wine-producing regions in Europe, famous for producing wines of exceptional quality, and especially for being the place where approximately 70% of Catalan cava is produced. Its privileged geographical location, a plain protected by mountains next to the sea, the mild climate of the Mediterranean coast and a permeable soil, rich in phosphorus, have made the region the main producer of wines and cavas in the country. Located 30 minutes from Barcelona and Tarragona, bathed by magnificent beaches and surrounded by the mountains of the interior, it offers a unique and singular landscape, characterised by its endless vineyards, dotted with farmhouses, unique heritage elements and numerous wineries and cavas that have brought international recognition to this area.
What we are going to do?
We will meet at a central point in Barcelona to start our experience. After a 45-minute van ride, we will arrive in the region of El Penedès. We will drive through a landscape dotted with farmhouses and wineries among vineyards, where viticulture is carried out in more than 300 wineries. We will arrive at a family-run cava cellar known for its premium cava production. We will visit the cellar and descend into the depths of the cellars where the cava is kept in secret for several years. We will learn about the vinification and production of cava from an expert winemaker. We will taste 3 varieties of cava, combined with traditional cheeses and cold meats while enjoying excellent views of the vineyards. We will continue our route to another family-owned winery, a pioneer in organic wines since 1978. Its wine and cava are made in the heart of the Penedès from 100% organic grapes harvested by hand and vinified entirely on the winery's premises. We will enjoy a guided tour of the winery and learn about its history and the winemaking process. We will also taste three wines from their range of white, red and sparkling wines along with some typical Catalan snacks.
