Description
The Monastery of Santa Maria de Montserrat is a Benedictine abbey located on the mountain of Montserrat. It has become a point of pilgrimage for believers as it is home to the Virgin of Montserrat, popularly known as the Moreneta, who is the patron saint of Catalonia. It was founded in the 10th century and is still in operation today with more than 70 monks.
What we are going to do?
Full day excursion to the most emblematic mountain of Catalonia, Montserrat. We will leave Barcelona towards the Monastery of Montserrat, where we will make a cultural visit accompanied by a specialized guide. We will visit the monastery and the Basilica of Santa Maria. We will have some free time to visit the cafeteria, the farmers' market or the souvenir shops before taking the Montserrat cable car down the mountain. We will go to the Farm Restaurant where we will enjoy a traditional meal. Afterwards we will visit the farm animals, the olive oil mill and the botanical gardens around the restaurant. Finally, we will take the bus back to Barcelona.
