Description
The Monastery of Santa Maria de Montserrat is a Benedictine abbey located on the mountain of Montserrat. It has become a point of pilgrimage for believers as it is home to the Virgin of Montserrat, popularly known as the Moreneta, who is the patron saint of Catalonia. It was founded in the 10th century and is still in operation today with more than 70 monks.
What we are going to do?
Half day excursion to the most emblematic mountain of Catalonia, Montserrat. We will leave Barcelona towards the Monastery of Montserrat, where we will make a cultural visit accompanied by a specialized guide. We will visit the monastery and the Basilica of Santa Maria. Then we will take the Sant Joan funicular railway to the top of the mountain of Montserrat. Once there, we will start a walking tour of about one hour to go back down to the monastery. We will have some free time to visit the cafeteria, the farmers' market or the souvenir shops and then we will return to Barcelona.
