Description
The mountain of Montjuïc rises 173 metres above sea level and has always been an important area in the cultural and political development of Barcelona over time. Archaeological remains of a settlement of Laietan tribes, dating from 300 BC and considered to be the founding community of the region, have been found on its slopes. The Montjuïc castle, which is also accessible by cable car, was built on top of the hill in 1751. The mountain fortress complemented the defensive and control functions over the city of the citadel, the remains of which became today's Parc de la Ciutadella. The modern history of Montjuïc is no less interesting than its past. Some of Barcelona's main places of interest are located on its slopes. For example, some of the main sports facilities of the 1992 Olympic Games; the Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium, the Palau Sant Jordi and the Barcelona Olympic Museum are located in this green core of the city. The area also counts among its attractions two of Barcelona's main museums: the MNAC - National Art Museum of Catalonia - and the Fundació Joan Miró.
What we are going to do?
The experience starts with a brief Segway training session with the guide, followed by a full 3 hour ride accompanied by the guide who will tell you facts, anecdotes, interesting stories and recommendations. The tour will take you to discover Barcelona's connection with this iconic mountain, the central green heart of the city's old town, where you will also find many of the iconic sites of the 1992 Olympic Games and fantastic panoramic views over the city and the Port Vell.
