Description
The Port Vell (Barcelona's old marina and commercial port) has existed for many centuries and, although it has been continuously remodelled, it still preserves several historic buildings such as the Palau de Mar, a late 19th century trading warehouse, and the Port Vell Customs building. Between the latter and the famous Ramblas, with the Royal Shipyards of Barcelona at the bottom, is the well-known Columbus Monument. Like the Arc de Triomphe and many other Barcelona attractions, this 60-metre-high statue was built for the Universal Exhibition of 1888. After leaving Port Vell, passing the Maremàgnum shopping centre and the Barcelona Aquarium, the route continues along the seafront to the beach. The route goes from the centre (Las Ramblas) to Barceloneta Beach, one of Barcelona's most popular beaches, so named because it is adjacent to the Barceloneta neighbourhood, the city's old fishing district.
What we are going to do?
The experience starts with a brief Segway training session with the guide, followed by a 2 hour ride accompanied by the guide who will tell you facts, anecdotes, interesting stories and recommendations. The tour includes some of the most beautiful places in Barcelona, few of which are visited during traditional city tours such as the tourist bus routes. It also provides a comprehensive overview of Barcelona's maritime history, the ongoing transformation of the city's coastline and the role that the Mediterranean Sea plays in Barcelona's local culture.
