Description
The Penedès is one of the oldest wine-producing regions in Europe, famous for producing wines of exceptional quality, and especially for being the place where approximately 70% of Catalan cava is produced. Its privileged geographical location, a plain protected by mountains next to the sea, the mild climate of the Mediterranean coast and a permeable soil, rich in phosphorus, have made the region the main producer of wines and cavas in the country. Located 30 minutes from Barcelona and Tarragona, bathed by magnificent beaches and surrounded by the mountains of the interior, it offers a unique and singular landscape, characterised by its endless vineyards, dotted with farmhouses, unique heritage elements and numerous wineries and cavas that have brought international recognition to this area.
What we are going to do?
We will meet at a central point in Barcelona to start our experience. After a 45 minute van ride we will arrive in the wine region of El Penedès. We will start the day by hiking through vineyards. Our path passes through a landscape full of farmhouses, farms and wineries scattered among the vineyards. As we walk, we will learn about the grape varieties of the area, the traditions and the history of the region. During the walk, we will take a break to taste some typical Catalan snacks, while enjoying beautiful views of the iconic mountain of Montserrat. After the hiking route, we will head to a family-owned organic winery where we will have a guided tour and learn about its history and elaboration process. To finish, we will enjoy a tasting of three wines from their range of award-winning whites, reds and cavas, along with some local produce.
