Park Güell, one of Gaudí's most emblematic works, is a monumental site unique in the world where the natural environment is inseparable from the architectural elements. More than a park, it is a symbol of Barcelona. Its uniqueness was recognised in 1969, when it was declared a historic-artistic monument of national interest, and in 1984, when it was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The park was conceived as an English-style estate for the Catalan bourgeoisie who wanted to spend the summer in a quiet place. That is why it is spelled "Park", with a "K", even in Spanish. It is one of the most "instagrammed" places in Spain, so it is not surprising that it is one of the most popular monuments in Barcelona. Every visitor wants to discover Gaudí's park and have their photo taken with the world's most famous salamander. The park is divided into two parts, on the one hand the natural area, which covers several hectares and is freely accessible, and on the other hand the monumental area, with regulated access.
