The Expiatory Temple of the Sagrada Familia, whose construction began in 1882, is today one of the signs of identity of Barcelona, recognised worldwide and visited by millions of people. It is the last construction of Gaudí's period, a unique place in Barcelona that will also become the tallest Basilica in the world when it is finished. A Gaudí masterpiece built over more than a century. The part built by Gaudí was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2005. The Construction Board expects to finish the work in 2026, when the centenary of Gaudí's death will be commemorated.
