Description
The mountain of Montserrat is a unique rock formation in the world. Its highly recognisable silhouette is one of the most important symbols of Catalonia. The Abbey of Montserrat, rebuilt in the 19th century, houses a 12th century image of the Virgin Mary, the popular Moreneta, patron saint of Catalonia, and is an important centre of pilgrimage and prayer for Catholics from all over the world. Considered a magical mountain, Montserrat is a privileged place for lovers of culture and nature. Its museum with works by first-rate artists surprises visitors to a mountain full of legends. The Escolania de Montserrat is one of the oldest children's choirs in Europe and enjoys international prestige. Its singers, children between the ages of 7 and 13 who receive a complete musical and school education, give concerts all over the world and take part in the liturgical celebrations of the monastery of Montserrat. Listening to them is a privilege and a luxury for the ear.
What we are going to do?
Full day guided excursion by bus departing from Barcelona. The bus tour will take us to the foot of the mountain of Montserrat where we will take the easiest way to get to "heaven", thanks to one of the only two curious "rack-trains" in operation in Catalonia. When we arrive at Montserrat we will have the privilege of discovering all the most interesting legends and stories of the abbey thanks to an introductory guided tour given by our guide. Afterwards we will have free time to explore the area at our leisure and have lunch in one of the restaurants with spectacular views. The experience includes access (subject to availability, subject to capacity and timetables) to the choral performance of the Escolania de Montserrat.
